SUMMARY:PoetryBridge
DESCRIPTION:We are a community of poets\, storytellers and fans of the spoken word. \nOur mission is to promote the best of poetry and storytelling in West Seattle. Not best as in better than\, but best as in authentic self-expression\, in person\, here and now. Best* that in the telling demonstrates diverse forms of bravery\, expressiveness\, sincerity and truthfulness\n  \nWe are featuring three poets\, live and in-person\, at C&P Coffee in West Seattle\, on Wednesday\, November 8th\, from 7-9 (PST)\, Mirian Bassuk\, Yvonne Higgins Leach and Laura C Lippman. See my update on covid considerations below. I plan to once again stream the reading live on YouTube and record it for viewing later. The YouTube link will be sent out separately. \n  \nMiriam Bassuk:Though originally from the east coast\, Miriam treasures her life in the Northwest. Her daily walks inspire her with the teeming life of eagles\, herons\, and the occasional sighting of Orcas that thrive in the Puget Sound. She has been published in The Journal of Sacred Feminine Wisdom\, Raven Chronicles\, PoetsWest Literary Journal\, and 3 Elements Review. She was one of the featured poets in the digital portion of the WA 129 project sponsored by the Washington State poet laureate. \n  \nYvonne Higgins Leach is the author of Another Autumn (Cherry Grove Collections\, 2014). Her poems have been published in The South Carolina Review\, South Dakota Review\, Spoon River Review\, The Cimarron Review\, POEM\, and others. Her second collection is forthcoming this fall from Kelsay Books. She spent decades balancing a career in communications and public relations\, raising a family\, and pursuing her love of writing poetry. Her latest passion is working with shelter dogs. She splits her time living on Vashon Island and in Spokane\, Washington. For more information\, visit www.yvonnehigginsleach.com \n  \nLaura C Lippman is a retired family doctor\, lifelong reader and agitator who started writing poetry just ten years ago\, (although upon recollection\, she was the editor of her high school literary magazine.) Her poems have appeared in Avatar Review\, Brief Wilderness\, The Broken Plate\, Chained Muse\, Crack the Spine\, Crosswinds\, El Portal\, Evening Street Review\, Flights\, Glassworks Magazine\, Green Hills Literary Lantern\, Hey I’m Alive Magazine\, La Presa\, Mobius: The Journal of Social Change\, Perceptions Magazine\, Plainsongs\, Pontoon Poetry\, Poydras Review\, Journal of Family Practice\, The Meadow\, Neologism Poetry Journal\, New English Review\, Sin Fronteras/Writers Without Borders\, Spotlon Review\, and Synkroniciti. among others. She is co-author of the book Writing While Masked; Reflections on 2020 and Beyond\, which was published by Basalt Books\, an imprimatur of WSU Press. She meets weekly with a poetry group on Vashon Island and enjoys the natural world and her grandchildren and frets about their future. \nhttps://www.poetrybridgetimes.net/about \nhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/202391486908642

SUMMARY:Author Sharon Podobnik Book Release Party
DESCRIPTION:  \nAuthor Sharon Podobnik Book Release Party\, author of the book It’s Not (All) Your Fault (info below!) \nBOOK SUMMARY: \nThis could be the last self-help book you ever read. \nSelf-help books promise transformation and empowerment but rarely deliver real change. What gives? \nDespite what we’ve been told\, no amount of self-help\, quick-fixes\, or mind-hacks will get us where we need to go. We cannot transform our futures through willpower and hard work alone. \nIt’s Not (All) Your Fault reveals the ways self-help—though well-meaning—is deeply flawed and keeps us trapped in stagnant cycles. It makes all of society’s problems your problems. \nSharon Podobnik draws on extensive industry and personal experience to offer a fresh perspective on personal development and collective transformation\, revealing their inextricable link and demonstrating that well-being depends on solidarity\, not self-optimization. \nWhether you’re a self-help enthusiast\, skeptic\, or outspoken activist\, this book is essential reading. Through captivating stories and insightful research\, Podobnik reorients us to our power\, provides radical strategies for growth and change\, and brings conscious awareness to what we already know: the future is a collaborative effort. \nDespite what the world has told you\, it’s not all your fault. \nADVANCED PRAISE: \n“A wonderful chaser to our collective self-optimization hangover…“ \n~ Dr. Devon Price\, social psychologist and author of the books Unmasking Autism and Laziness Does Not Exist  \n  \n“Podobnik pulls no punches in her brilliant analysis…ultimately showing us that liberation is a collective project.” \n~ Renee Powers\, Founder & CEO\, Feminist Book Club \n  \n“Sharon’s take on the self-help industry is refreshing and\, as someone who has spent countless hours reading those books\, made me realize that I’m not alone in my feelings of failure and inadequacy stemming from what’s meant to be helpful. Turns out\, it’s not (all) my fault.” \n~ Maricella Herrera\, CEO\, Ellevate Network \n  \n“Rather than fixing ourselves\, Podobnik invites us to recognize our shared humanity\, articulate our deepest values\, and work together to build the future we deserve. Hers is a vision of radical hope with the power to transform lives and society itself.” \n~Shasti Conrad\, political strategist\, Chair of the Washington State Democrats \nAUTHOR BIO: \nSharon Podobnik is a leadership coach\, author\, and speaker known for her work at the intersection of individual development and collective transformation. \n  \nHer writing draws from her background in education and her personal experiences in the self-help industry\, and explores the psychological and sociological factors that shape our lives and our futures. Podobnik synthesizes complex topics\, blending research with storytelling to present ideas in compelling and accessible ways. Her writing has been praised for being as entertaining as it is enlightening. Her work has been featured in Forbes\, The Washington Post\, Good Morning America\, and Oprah Magazine. \n  \nShe is the founder of The Center for Conscious Leadership\, which seeks to co-create a more peaceful\, just\, and equitable world. When she’s not exploring the world with her husband Mark\, she’s writing at a local coffee shop or reading with her spunky kitty\, Annie\, in Seattle\, Washington.
