Mothers Day is coming, so let’s Help Westside Baby by Donating Diapers!
Did you know that 1 in 3 families in America struggle to afford diapers for their children? Without an adequate supply of diapers, many babies are forced to sit in dirty diapers for hours on end, making them more vulnerable to diaper rash, infections, and abuse.
Did you know…
Diapers can’t be purchased using Food Stamps or any other form of government assistance?
Diapers cost up to $100 per month, per baby?
Babies without diapers can be turned away from childcare and moms without childcare can’t go to work?
The fact that this is the reality for so many families is simply unacceptable. I invite you to join me and become a part of the solution by supporting my diaper drive on behalf of WestSide Baby.
WestSide Baby is a nonprofit organization that works to address these issues by providing essential items to local children in need by collecting and distributing diapers, clothing and equipment. I am hosting a diaper drive of my own to help them serve more than 38,000 children this year!

Greetings and Happy New Year!
Pete, Maddy, Ty and I just returned from a friend’s wedding in Thailand. It was a thrilling trip filled with beautiful colors, enticing flavors and elephants! It was also a wonderful opportunity to reflect, with gratitude, upon the fantastic events of 2018.
It was exactly a year ago that our beloved building was unexpectedly put on market for over a million dollars. Our future seemed bleak and uncertain. I would have never guessed, in those dark January days, that our community would come together to save us. It was during that time, that Pete and I developed new friendships and reinforced old ones. Friends, neighbors and family members rallied to help us, boost our confidence and commit to a new vision for our small business. I will be forever changed by those moments.
The celebration party we had on Father’s day was so much fun. The sun shined on the taco truck in the back yard, kids were running around and the beer was flowing. It was awesome to raise a glass with everyone and toast to our future.
As I look to the new year, I am excited to continue our efforts to support the West Seattle Food Bank, Helpline and West Side Baby. I look forward to hearing your music, poems, paintings and learning more about YOUR hopes, dreams and desires. We are always looking to find new ways to engage with our community and hope you will continue to help us towards this goal.
So three cheers to a new year. Another chance to connect with old friends and hopefully make some new ones.

It is with the most profound gratitude that we can say we have raised the funds needed to purchase and preserve the coffee house.
Thousands of us stood together to say that community matters, and that a true community space like the coffee house is worth saving. That same spirit and kindness has always made C & P what it is.
All those who gave through the GoFundMe or by other means directly contributed to our effort to save C & P. From the countless friends and Neighbors who gave hundreds to the Fairmount Park student who shyly slid a dollar across the bar; every donation mattered. Please know with pride that we couldn’t have done it without you. We look forward to building friendships and community with you for many years to come
This effort would not have been possible without the advice and expertise of so many from our community. Although resolute, Cam and I were over our heads many times during this process. Our motto was; “They don’t know the amateurs they’re dealing with!” Although there are too many to thank here, we would like to especially acknowledge our lawyers Eric and Brock, John Babauta and HomeStreet Bank, and our dear friend and broker Roger Steiner of RSVP Real Estate. Thanks also to our incredible C & P crew for putting up with us during this process. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.
Kindnss has always been the cornerstone of C& P. For 15 years we have opened our doors and welcomed a neighborhood in. But it wasn’t until the place was in Jeopardy that Cam and I truly learned what community means. Your kindness and commitment has shown us clearly that the coffee house is more than four walls. It is a place where neighbors meet and strangers become friends. It is a place where music and poetry and art are essential. It is a place where social justice is expected and fought for. It is a warm cozy room on a cold day. It is a home. It is YOUR home.

Go For It C & P Coffee!
Hello friends, family and neighbors. A few weeks ago, our beloved and historic coffee house property that we have leased for 15 years was suddenly put on the open market—for $1.2 million! This place has become an center for our community and we are determined to save it. Which means putting in a bid to buy, and the asking price is beyond our means.
We’ve started this fund with two goals in mind: First, to help collect enough for a down payment. Second, there are a lot of accompanying expenses—lawyers fees and other costs. We need help with those too.
Given more lead time, we might have been able to figure this out on our own. But we’ve been told that our landlord is looking at offers in three weeks.
Pete and I are forever changed by this moment. We have been overwhelmed with offers of love and support from a community that recognizes how very important it is to provide a place for life to happen. Our customers have become neighbors and friends, and they all feel this historic property belongs to them. It is place where couples have been married, children have had parties, memorial services have been held, art classes and book clubs form, local musicians gather to jam, community gardens are planted in the back yard and most importantly, people gather to talk to each other face to face!
In Seattle these days, this kind of place is disappearing.
If we are successful in our goal, Pete and I are dedicated and determined to giving back to this neighborhood that has so generously supported us. We are forever changed by your belief in us to be stewards of your second home. We want to continue doing what we do and share that journey with you.
